It would be too easy to break down that ill-fated pass play turned sack-fumble-touchdown that resulted in the Buffalo Bills' 31-27 loss to the New York Jets.
So instead of depressing you even more than you are, we'll put the focus on something positive:
Both teams' rushing performance.
If you like good running attacks, Sunday's game was for you.
Bills running backs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson ran all over the NFL's fifth-ranked run defense. The Bills ran for 187 yards, 127 by Lynch, while averaging 5.8 per carry.
The Jets weren't too bad either, especially in the first half when they tallied 129 of their 165 yards. They finished with a gaudy 6.9-yard average per attempt. Running backs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington were a big part of the Jets' success. Even quarterback Brett Favre got into the act.
There were plenty of explosive plays with nine runs of 10 yards or more (five by the Jets, four by the Bills) and three over 25 yards.
Plenty of kudos should go to the offensive lines, which provided outstanding blocking to allow the backs to have a good day.
Here's a look at some of the best runs by both teams:
>Best of the Bills
* Lynch runs for 35 yards on the Bills' first possession: On first-and-10 from their own 43-yard line, the Bills lined up TEs Derek Fine and Derek Schouman to the right, which was the play side.
On the snap, LG Derrick Dockery, RG Brad Butler and RT Langston Walker all pulled around the right side while Fine and Schouman engaged defenders at the line of scrimmage. Schouman got the first key block, stopping LB David Bowens from penetrating. Butler stuffed LB David Harris and Walker took out CB Darrelle Revis, which allowed Lynch to turn the corner and head upfield.
The rest was all Lynch. He broke free of S Abram Elam at midfield and spun out of LB Eric Barton's arm tackle at the Jets' 45. Lynch stiff-armed S Kerry Rhodes and fought off three defenders before Revis pushed him out of bounds at the 22.
* Lynch gains 13 on second-quarter run: Again, the Bills used two tight ends. Only this time, Schouman motioned to the right. Lynch looked up the middle, where it was clogged, planted his left foot and cut to the right side, where Walker sealed off the inside, Schouman cut off LB Bryan Thomas and WR Lee Evans locked up CB Ty Law. Thomas got free of Schouman and grabbed Lynch around the waist, but couldn't hold on. Thomas slowed up Lynch enough for Elam and Rhodes to bring him down at the Jets' 37.
* Lynch's 14-yard jaunt sets up a second TD: The Bills have the NFL's heaviest line, but at times the big guys display good mobility. Such was the case on this play as Walker pulled from right to left and delivered a strong lead block on Harris. That plus nice blocks by LT Jason Peters on DE Kenyon Coleman and Dockery on Barton sprung Lynch, who broke a tackle at the 10-yard line before being dragged down at the 4.
* Jackson's powerful 11-yard TD gives the Bills a fourth-quarter lead: Jackson ran to the left side where blocks by Peters and C Duke Preston opened a hole. With Dockery in front of him, Jackson lowered his head as he encountered two defenders at the 5. Suddenly there was a big pileup, but Jackson kept working and popped through the mass of bodies and got across the goal line.
>Best of the Jets
* Favre gains 27 yards on a naked bootleg on the Jets' first drive: On third-and-1 at the Bills' 41, both teams came out with their short-yardage personnel. The Bills obviously expected the ball to go to RB Thomas Jones, the AFC's top rusher. But the Jets crossed the Bills up.
CB Leodis McKelvin, who was responsible for outside contain, bit on Favre's fake handoff and went for Jones. With a blocker in front of him, Favre scampered upfield. Favre might have scored, but McKelvin's speed allowed him to avoid OT Wayne Hunter and push Favre out of bounds. The play set up the first touchdown of the game.
"It probably shocked everyone," the 39-year-old Favre said. "I really thought I was going to score. I was about 20 yards down there when I realized that I was slower than I thought."
* Jones rips off 16 yards in the second quarter: FB Tony Richardson motioned to the left side and on the snap, he locked up DE Ryan Denney, allowing Jones to get outside. LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson cut off the pursuit of LB Kawika Mitchell. McKelvin got away from WR Jerricho Cotchery's block to push Jones out of bounds at the Jets' 30.
* Washington's 47-yard dash gives the Jets a halftime lead: On the snap, RT Damien Woody and RG Brandon Moore released upfield, leaving DT Marcus Stroud unblocked. But LG Alan Faneca pulled and trap blocked Stroud long enough for Washington to cut behind C Nick Mangold's block on DT Kyle Williams and run through the crease created by Moore's block on Mitchell and Woody's block on LB Paul Posluszny.
S Bryan Scott and CB Terrence McGee were the last line of defense, but Scott took a bad angle and Washington blew by him. McGee got cut off by Cotchery at the 30. S Ko Simpson gave a futile chase. Washington has an NFL-high 10 plays of 40 or more yards. Four of them were against the Bills.
"That touchdown was on me," Stroud said. "I was thinking pass and got caught on a trap. That was my fault."
* Jones zips for 10 yards in the third quarter: Posluszny, Mitchell and LB Keith Ellison attacked the left side of the Jets' formation where the play was expected to go. But Jones spotted an opening to the right, where Mangold had locked onto Williams and Woody had Stroud held up for Jones to hit the hole. Moore chipped Stroud while moving to the second level and sealed off Ellison from the play. Stroud managed to get away from Woody to drag Jones down at the Jets' 23.
