Rather than shuffle around the entire offensive line, the Seahawks have decided to give Kyle Williams his first NFL start in place of Walter Jones, who was placed on injured reserve following knee surgery.
Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren had considered moving several players around to accommodate the loss of Jones. Instead, he is shoving the inexperienced player from USC into the spotlight and hoping he does well enough to protect QB Seneca Wallace.
If Williams got injured, the Seahawks would likely then have to shuffle around some players, putting Floyd Womack, currently playing left guard, at left tackle.
PLAYER NOTES
--S Jordan Babineaux did not practice because of a concussion he suffered. But he will be available for Sunday's game.
--LB Leroy Hill (stinger) did not practice and is doubtful for Sunday's game.
--QB Matt Hasselbeck continues to sit out with a bad back and is doubtful for the Jets game.
--WR Koren Robinson did not practice on Wednesday because of a sore knee but will play against New York.
--T Sean Locklear (dislocated toe) did not practice Wednesday, will not practice all week and is doubtful for Sunday.
GAME PLAN: The Seahawks are not likely to have much luck with the run, given they are trotting out yet another offensive line and the Jets are sixth against the run. That means they will have to be creative with QB Seneca Wallace and allow him to use his athleticism to make things happen.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Jets QB Brett Favre vs. Seahawks linebackers - Favre had much success against the Seahawks when they played in the playoffs in the snow at Lambeau last year. Seattle's linebackers have been blitzing more in recent weeks and will likely do the same against Favre.
Jets RB Thomas Jones vs. Seahawks RB Julius Jones: This will be a brother vs. brother battle. The Jets' Jones is leading the AFC in rushing with 1,222 yards and 13 TDs. The Seahawks' Jones has had a difficult season, including two fumbles when he played his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, on Thanksgiving Day.
INJURY IMPACT: Even though Kyle Williams will practice all week at left tackle in place of Walter Jones, he has no in-game NFL experience and has been on the practice squad for the better part of two years. Certainly QB Seneca Wallace will be more nervous with Williams there than either Walter Jones or Sean Locklear.
