With fullback Leonard Weaver returning from sore ribs, rookie Owen Schmitt, who got his first career start last week, will go back to backup duty and special teams. Weaver right now is a better blocker and pass receiver.
Meanwhile, with Patrick Kerney being placed in injured reserve, it means the Seahawks will continue with the rotation of youngsters for the foreseeable future. Lawrence Jackson, Darryl Tapp and Baraka Atkins will get the work this week, though newly signed Brandon Miller may see some time down the stretch.
PLAYER NOTES
--QB Matt Hasselbeck did not practice on Wednesday after getting banged around on Sunday. He should practice Thursday and will start Sunday against Washington.
--DE Patrick Kerney was placed on injured reserve and was replaced on the roster by Brandon Miller, who was claimed off waivers from Atlanta.
--TE Jeb Putzier was re-signed to the roster. He was released on Saturday after the team needed to make room for practice squad safety Jamar Adams. Adams was sent back to the practice squad.
--DT Red Bryant saw limited time in practice on Wednesday. He is questionable for Sunday depending on how he reacts to his high ankle sprain.
--LB David Hawthorne is recovering from a calf injury and practiced on Wednesday. He is questionable for Sunday's game.
--S C.J Wallace was doing some running while recovering from a hamstring injury. His status for Sunday's game is unclear.
--FB Leonard Weaver practiced on Wednesday and is expected to start on Sunday after missing last week's game with sore ribs.
--CB Josh Wilson twisted his ankle in Wednesday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's game.
GAME PLAN: The Seahawks must limit the running of back Clinton Portis, who could keep Seattle's offense off the field with his ability, and also limit the big plays of Washington receivers Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle-El. They also must limit their turnovers; they had four last week against Arizona, including three interceptions by Matt Hasselbeck.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Seahawks run defense vs. Redskins RB Clinton Portis - Seattle has done a decent job against big-name opposing rushers this season. Portis already is over 1,000 yards and leads the Redskins' fifth-ranked rushing attack.
Seahawks pass rush vs. Redskins pass protection: Seattle is tied for ninth in the league with 24 sacks but has only four in its past three games. Washington QB Jason Campbell has been sacked 26 times this season.
INJURY IMPACT: QB Matt Hasselbeck did not practice Wednesday, which could be a factor since he needs all the practice time he can get to wipe away the rust from his five-week layoff.
--FB Leonard Weaver is expected to practice all week and start, but he could still be limited because he still is wearing wraps on his sore ribs.
