The Seahawks signed WR Koren Robinson this week, placing Logan Payne on injured reserve. They also traded a conditional fifth-round pick for Denver's Keary Colbert and released DE Jason Babin to make room.
Courtney Taylor and Billy McMullen are likely to start at flanker and split end, with Michael Bumpus playing the slot. But Robinson, a flanker, and Colbert are going to be getting some time against the Rams, though how much remains to be seen in practice, Mike Holmgren said. Also, Robinson is now battling a sore knee.
With Babin's release, Baraka Atkins moves into the four-man rotation at defensive end. Defensive coordinator has been letting the second unit of Darryl Tapp and Babin (now Atkins) play the third series of the game to give Patrick Kerney and Lawrence Jackson a rest.
Josh Wilson has been moved to the nickel back ahead of Jordan Babineaux, and Holmgren said Robinson also could return kickoffs this week.
PLAYER NOTES
--Newly acquired WR Koren Robinson missed most of practice on Thursday with a sore knee. His status for Sunday is uncertain but he likely won't get much playing time without practice because he doesn't know much of the system.
--OT Walter Jones did not practice on Thursday to rest a hip, but he will play Sunday.
--OT Sean Locklear took part in most of Thursday's practice, though he remains questionable against the Rams.
--WR Deion Branch caught multiple passes for the first time in a practice since having knee surgery, though he is out for Sunday's game.
--DT Rocky Bernard did not practice on Thursday to rest a knee but will play against St. Louis.
--WR Bobby Engram did individual drills on the side but will not play Sunday because of a broken bone in his shoulder.
--QB Seneca Wallace did not practice Wednesday and is out for Sunday.
GAME PLAN: Seattle's defense, giving up 33.5 points a game, needs to harass QB Marc Bulger as it did in both games last season and force him into mistakes. They knocked him out of the first game last year with a concussion. Seattle has forced only one turnover this year. Offensively, they need to get the running game going again to loosen things up for the new wide receivers.
MATCHUPS TO WATCH: Rams QB Marc Bulger vs. Seahawks secondary - Bulger has completed 34 of 58 passes this season. Seattle's secondary, which has Kelly Jennings and Marcus Trufant injured, gave up 321 yards passing to J.T. O'Sullivan last week.
Seahawks P Jon Ryan vs. Rams P Donnie Jones -- Ryan averaged 39 yards a punt last week. Jones is averaging 51.2 yards a punt. The Seahawks for two straight weeks lost the battle of field position, which cost them dearly.
