Seattle Seahawks Notes, Quotes 2009-03-20
--Seahawks free agent fullback Leonard Weaver still has not made a decision on where he will play in 2009. Weaver reportedly is choosing between the Vikings, Bucs and Seattle.

Weaver indicated that he wants to return to Seattle, but that the offer he received from the team was not what he expected. Now that the Seahawks have apparently freed up some salary cap space by trading linebacker Julian Peterson, we'll see if they are willing to sweeten the pot to keep Weaver around.

--The newest Seahawk, defensive lineman Cory Redding, said he was on the phone all day Saturday talking with team officials until he finally got the official word at 7:30 p.m that he had been traded to Seattle.

"My first reaction was that I'm excited," Redding said. "It's a good organization, a lot of history, and I've been watching them play for the past four, five, six years. I'm just excited to be there."

Redding addressed reports that he had restructured his contract. He said he had no knowledge of a restructuring, adding that that was something for his agent, Kennard McGuire, to handle. According to reports, Redding restructured his seven-year, $49 million deal to make the trade between Seattle and Detroit work.

Redding, 28, said he's fine with wherever Seattle lines him up defensively.

"I'm a football player," he said. "It doesn't matter where you put me, inside or outside. I've shown that I can do it both. Just put me where you want me, and I'm there."

However, Redding did say he's been told that he'll probably be used as a defensive end on first and second downs, and then moved to the inside to rush the passer on third downs.

--Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell and head coach Jim Mora said they wanted to keep as many of their players as they could during the free agency period. However, Seattle has lost six free unrestricted free agents, the most of any team in the league. Players who have moved on include running back Maurice Morris (Detroit), offensive lineman Floyd Womack (Cleveland), wide receiver Bobby Engram (Kansas City), tight end Will Heller (Detroit), defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (N.Y. Giants) and defensive tackle Howard Green (N.Y. Jets).

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Cory Redding is a guy we've had our eye on for some time. We liked him coming out of Texas because of his versatility to play inside and out and also because of the type of person he is. This gives us another big, physical presence along the defensive line and someone we can play at multiple positions." -- Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell on the Seahawks picking up defensive lineman Cory Redding.
