IRVING - The injured players were at Valley Ranch on Sunday night for treatment, as was offensive quality control coach Wes Phillips.
Any afterglow from the Cowboys' 35-22 win against San Francisco was replaced by the reality that they play again Thursday against Seattle.
"We are already off to the next one," coach Wade Phillips said.
The players filed through the locker room Monday, each with a different perspective. For those who did not play, they worked out. For those who did, they tried to loosen joints and muscles.
Instead of the normal running and lifting the day after a game, the Cowboys had an extended walkthrough practice, lasting more than an hour. Their normal off day is Tuesday, but today they will have a two-hour practice.
"I hate short weeks," cornerback Terence Newman said.
Players and coaches live on routines, but the annual Thanksgiving Day game throws them off. Practices and meetings get squeezed. Not game plans.
"The biggest adjustment is getting your body back," defensive end Marcus Spears said. "As far as getting the game plan in, we'll know what these guys are doing."
For the coaches, it's playing catch-up.
Phillips said he did not want offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and defensive coordinator Brian Stewart to work on the Seahawks last week because he wanted them to concentrate on the 49ers.
"But they'll be ready this week," Phillips said.
He said the rest of the staff started working on Seattle last week.
"Coaches and time, whatever time it takes that's what you do," Phillips said. "If it takes longer, you do it longer."
Complicating matters is the team's health.
The Cowboys had 11 players on the injury list Monday.
Left guard Kyle Kosier will not play against the Seahawks after reinjuring his foot Sunday and could miss the rest of the season. Rookie cornerback Mike Jenkins is probably out with a hamstring strain, which means Alan Ball would probably become the fourth corner. Safety Pat Watkins (stinger) was limited Monday but told Phillips he should be available Thursday.
Newman (groin) played Sunday after not practicing Friday. He said he will play against the Seahawks despite not working out Monday. Tight end Martellus Bennett was limited because of an ankle injury, but Jason Witten, bothered by shoulder and rib injuries, had a full practice.
"Every week it's who's banged up and who can play and how you adjust from special teams to offense to defense," Phillips said. "And a shorter week, it's even more hectic, I think. You have to go through who's going to play here, what sub packages can you use offensively and defensively. And special teams is a big factor."
Zach Thomas is preparing for his fourth Thanksgiving Day game, but the first without having to travel. Seattle did not practice Monday and leaves for Dallas on Wednesday.
"You really get two days of preparation, and we're getting three because we get to stay here," Thomas said. "I feel like that it's a big advantage that we need to use. We've got momentum, and we've got to keep it going."
