An officiating crew short on Super Bowl experience will work the 43rd installment Sunday at Raymond James Stadium when the Steelers face the Arizona Cardinals.
Of the seven-man crew, just two have worked in a Super Bowl ? referee Terry McAulay and line judge Mark Perlman.
McAulay, in his 11th NFL season, was the referee in Super Bowl XXXIX. Perlman, in his ninth season, was on the oft-criticized officiating crew in Super Bowl XL, when the Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10.
Perlman was not involved in any of the controversial calls that drew the ire of Seahawks fans and coach Mike Holmgren.
The first-timers are umpire Roy Ellison, head linesman Derick Bowers, field judge Greg Cautreaux, side judge Michael Banks and back judge Keith Ferguson.
Bob McGrath is the replay assistant.
Under the NFL's evaluation process for officials, the highest-rated ones at each position work the Super Bowl. However, the officials must have at least five years of experience and worked previous playoff assignments.
