Bringing the pressure Ware rings up three of team's seven sacks, but he needs MRI
IRVING - The defense had a season-high seven sacks, 10 tackles for loss, eight passes defensed, one interception, two forced fumbles and got its swagger back.

Sure, it was the Seahawks.

But it didn't matter, because this is what the Cowboys defense is supposed to do against a team that is last in total offense and passing and 17th running the ball.

Rushing the passer has been the key over the last few weeks for the Cowboys.

This defense has 18 sacks the last four weeks, and its seven sacks in Thursday's victory over Seattle is the most since getting nine against Arizona in 1997.

"Don't you like it?" said outside linebacker Greg Ellis, who had one sack and one tackle for loss. "It's great obviously. It's good to get pressure on the quarterback to help your team out like that, and I want to help the team out."

The Cowboys' pass rush, however, got a scare Thursday.

Star outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware hyperextended his left knee in the third quarter and didn't return. Ware said he will undergo an MRI exam today to check for further damage.

As Ware lay on the field, at least 15 players, including injured safety Roy Williams, stood around him to see if he was OK.

"I'm good," said Ware, who had three sacks and four tackles for loss. "I was scared. Injuries are part of the game, and they usually don't happen that way with me."

Seattle left tackle Walter Jones, an eight-time Pro Bowler, was beaten twice for sacks by Ware.

Asked his thoughts about the Cowboys' best pass rusher, Jones said, "It's a shock. It's a shock. But it's the game of Football. You go out there, you don't want to give up sacks and stuff, but you have to move on."

The Cowboys' pass rush, as good as it's been the last four weeks, needs Ware. His three sacks tie a career-high, and his 15 on the season established a club season high. Ware had 14 sacks last season.

Whether or not Ware plays, the pass rush overall got plenty of contributions.

Inside linebacker Bradie James recorded two sacks and seems to be playing his best Football of the season. James got his sacks on third-down blitzes in the first half.

"I've been pressuring a little bit more this year," James said. "But the thing is, I've actually just been getting there and beating guys."

The Cowboys need more of that, especially a week from Sunday in Pittsburgh whose quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, has been sacked 32 times, second most in the league.

"We have a good rush team," coach Wade Phillips said. "We got a lot of hits on the quarterback, and it's something that you have to do, I think, to be able to win."
