Now that the 49ers are in an all-out house cleaning mode, exchanging Mike Nolan for Mike Singletary, and unceremoniously dumping their offensive line coach, rumors — wishful thinking, more like it — are spreading around the bay area regarding current Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren.

Josh Alper, over at gives a quick rundown of all the scribes calling for the 49ers to bring in Holmgren to act in a similar role to what Bill Parcells currently is with the Miami Dolphins.

Problem for the 49ers is, Holmgren has absolutely no interest in doing anything of the sort … at least not for 2009, as reported by Adam Schefter.One source close to the Seahawks said Wednesday that, short of the 49ers offering Holmgren a stake of ownership in the team — and even that might not change the circumstances — Seattle’s head coach will not be working for San Francisco next season. “Under no circumstance could I see him doing that — zero, none,” the source said. “It would be absolutely shocking to me. It would be extraoridinarily difficult for (Holmgren) to ever entertain that idea.” Holmgren has worked for the 49ers, watched how they have operated, and is well familiar with the York family that owns the team. Right now, according to those that know him, Holmgren has little desire to work there again.If Holmgren appears to be such a pipe dream, I suppose there’s still some time for the San Francisco media to get on that Bill Cowher bandwagon.
